- June Newsletter is now available.
- Our next play date/picnic for upcoming Kindergartners will be held Saturday, June 27 from 1:30pm to 3:00pm at Fairview Park, which is located on the corner of Fairview and Spring Street in Silver Spring. We hope that you can make and if not, we will have one or two other play dates before the start of school that you may be able to attend. Please bring a picnic lunch for your family and a blanket to sit in to the park. The play date picnic will be held as long as the weather permits.
- Photos from Field Day, Dining out with Dads and Spring Fair are now available.
- Congratulations to our new PTA Board Members for 2009-2010 school year!
President: Chris Rutledge
Vice-President: Diana Arrington
Secretary: Evita Smedley
Treasurer: Michael Horowitz - The PTA is looking to fill leadership and other positions for the next school year. Some of the jobs are very small, require NO meetings, can be done from home, and are one-time commitments. Other roles are more time intensive, and offer more opportunities for leadership and involvement. Think only stay-at-home parents can be involved with PTA? Think again! The vast majority of involved PTA parents have full-time jobs and very busy lives.
Does your child go to after school clubs? Does he/she enjoy assemblies? Do you use the directory to arrange play dates? Did you learn something new from the Black History Month updates? Did you attend the Spring Fair or Winter Festival? Do you attend informative meetings where you and your kids can enjoy free pizza and babysitting once a month at Woodlin? If you said yes to any of those questions, you have benefited from the Woodlin PTA.
Become part of the team that makes these programs happen, and help create the environment you want for your children. We are particularly interested in hearing from our kindergarten parents – you are new to the school and filled with great ideas. Contact a member of the nominating committee TODAY and let us know you are interested. Email Karen Sharp (kdsharp334@hotmail. com), Lisa Alton (lisa@altoncreative. com), or Elly Sullivan (sullivan61@verizon. net) and we will help you find your ideal role.
Information
- Join the PTA by filling out the membership form (español). 100% of your membership fee goes directly to helping our teachers and children with valuable programs throughout the whole year.
- Join the Woodlin PTA listserve to keep updated on important announcements and other information.
We are looking for volunteers for the following jobs.
Please contact Lisa Alton if you are interested.
- Silent Auction Co-chair. We have one parent already signed up, but they need a co-chair. The auction takes place in February. Help with our largest fundraiser of the year! Chairs and their committee are responsible for running the auction, including contacting businesses, collecting donations and running the auction.
- International Night Coordinator. International Night is a family event that often includes table displays of family heritage, entertainment and a potluck dinner. Main duties: Send out flyers soliciting family displays and potluck donations two or three weeks before the event so you have an idea of how many tables to set up. If desired, book entertainment. Purchase paper goods for dinner and provide water.
- School spirit. Help coordinate sales of t-shirts, car magnets and cookbooks. Organize an art content to design a new t-shirt.
- Election day bake sale. This is a wonderful way to reach out to our local community. Organize a bake sale on election day, you do not have to be at the sale for the entire day. The community members really look forward to this event.
- Volunteer Coordinator. Help find volunteers for teachers & staff. Gather volunteer forms & provide lists of volunteers (from those forms) for special events. Maintain logbook & keep track of volunteer hours. This job is working with staff, not finding volunteers for PTA events.
