Everyone in attendance will have the opportunity to hear about the study process for the proposed project. \nThe purpose of these meetings is to develop a preliminary design for the school project. This is an evolving process whereby input from the previous meeting is incorporated into the ongoing proposed design. These meetings are to determine spatial relationships within the school’s interior\, the pedestrian and traffic flow of the site\, and how the project will impact the community at large. \nParticipants will include representatives of the school\, PTA\, neighbors\, government agencies\, the design architects\, and staff from MCPS Division of Construction. \nThe dates and times for the meetings are shown below. DESCRIPTION:Please join us on Monday\, July 6 at 7 pm in front of Woodlin ES to elect officers to the PTA board for the 2020-21 school year. Since Montgomery County has moved into Phase 2 of COVID reopening\, we are also now allowed to gather in groups of up to 50\, which means we can move forward with in-person elections as required by Maryland PTA. We hope our dedicated PTA members can give us 15-30 minutes of your time to gather in a safe\, socially distant way so we can officially elect our new officers. To keep everyone as safe as possible\, please maintain 6′ distance from others\, bring and wear your mask\, and don’t come if you are not feeling well or have been exposed to anyone else showing symptoms of COVID. MCPS’s Construction and Improvement Plan (CIP) recommends a “major capital project” at Woodlin. The CIP is working its way through the County budget process\, and while nothing is a sure thing until the final budget is approved\, MCPS is moving ahead with planning for the Woodlin project. This meeting will be a chance to get up-to-date on what has happened and what to expect in the coming months.\n\nPizza will be served in the all-purpose room starting at 6:30\, and the meeting will begin in the media center at 7:00.  Childcare will be provided by KAH.

The formal part of the meeting will start at 7:00 in the media center. We will be joined by Dr. Peter Moran\, one of MCPS’s Directors of Learning\, Achievement\, and Administration. In his capacity\, he oversees three of the High School Clusters within MCPS\, including Einstein HS and all of the Elementary and Middle Schools that feed into Einstein.  Dr. Moran will talk about overall MCPS initiatives in instruction and curriculum and what he’d like to see for both Woodlin ES and Sligo MS in the next few years.   \nFollowing Dr. Moran\, Principal Jackson and Vice Principal Scott will provide an update about activities going on in Woodlin\, including how the first round of Responsive Classroom implementation has been working and what is coming next. We will also also hear from some of the teachers about how they see it working within the classroom and how the kids are responding to the new approach. Last year\, the PTA provided funding to Woodlin to train teachers from each grade level in Responsive Classroom. The Responsive Classroom approach recognizes that academic success is linked with social and emotional skills and supports the teaching of positive social skills while teaching academics.   \nWe will have time for questions for Dr. Moran and Woodlin administrators\, as well as some PTA-related updates.

DESCRIPTION:The 2018 Dash of the Runaway Wizards will take place on the field behind Woodlin Elementary School on Friday\, October 19\, 2018. \nThe Dash of the Runaway Wizards\, our annual fun run\, is an exciting and healthy way for our students to raise money for the PTA! This fun run raises money for academic support for the teachers\, educational events at school and PTA-sponsored community building activities — the Dash of the Runaway Wizards is the PTA’s biggest fundraiser for the year! Let’s join schools in all 50 states and walk to school! \n\nGet a group of neighbors and friends from your bus stop\, building or neighborhood and make a walking plan.\nWear your Woodlin gear and Woodlin colors. Get together earlier and make posters. It’s a walking party!\nArrive at school by 8:45am! Bring an extra snack/water for your child if they get hungry from the walk.\nMCPD community crossing guards will be at 16th Street and 2nd Ave AND Georgia Ave and Seminary Rd\nhttp://www.walkbiketoschool.org/\n\nWe would love volunteers to help organize neighbors to walk to school day. Feel free to post the flier around your neighborhood or building. Also\, even if you can’t walk the whole way from your home to Woodlin\, maybe park a few blocks away and walk in with your child.
