What is your story?
We all have a story to tell. One that is unique and individual to us. Every year Woodlin participates in the National PTA Reflections contest – giving our students the opportunity to take their learning and creativity beyond the classroom. On December 6th we will have a celebration of all of the varied and diverse stories found in our community and we hope yours will be one of them!
The contest starts at the local school, with the top 3 in each category from K-2nd grade, and the top 3 in each category from 3rd-5th grade moving on to the county level. The county winners go on to state, and then to the national level. There is an opportunity for recognition and money prizes for the child if their art is selected. Plus their art will be displayed at different conventions and government spaces.
The artwork is expected to be done at home, unless a teacher specifies otherwise. You may pick to enter in more than one category. The submissions are due Nov. 15, 2016.The rules to enter the program are very important to follow, and each category has a list of rules including length, size, etc. The main goal is to interpret the theme in a creative, artistic way. Also all students entering must turn in a parent signed student entry form WITH the art, along with a brief statement that explains why the artwork reflects the theme.
The categories you can choose to submit in are:
- Music Composition
- Literary Art
- Visual Art
- Special Artist (for kids with disabilities defined by the ADA)
The Reflections theme this year is “What is Your Story” which was selected by a student last year. Did you know every student can submit an idea for next years theme? If you wish to submit a theme for consideration next year there is a document below and it must be turned in by November 1st.
The Woodlin Reflections program will culminate in a Reflections Celebration on Dec. 6th where we will celebrate all the art created by the student body. We will also give out awards to the finalists.
This is a great opportunity for all of our students to think about what their story is, create a piece of art to reflect that story and have it displayed for all of the school to enjoy. We hope to see everyone’s story on display on December 6th!
