We'd like to extend a special welcome to all new parents of Woodlin. Whether you are a Kindergarten parent or the parent of a 4th grader, WELCOME!! To help with some questions you may have, we've put together a Handy Hints guide to help introduce you to Woodlin. We look forward to seeing you at our PTA meetings.
Parent Resource Center
Purpose:
To provide parents with a comfortable setting where they can access MCPS and community resources, literature, parenting information, and computer use to access educational information.
Hours of Operation:
Mondays 9 am- 12 pm
Wednesdays 9 am- 12 pm
Fridays 9 am- 12 pm
Requirements:
All parent volunteers who will be responsible for managing the resource center must attend a brief orientation regarding school procedures, safety drills (fire, Code Blue/Code Red) and key entry expectations.
Guidelines:
- All parents must sign in at the main office
- Non-school age children must be accompanied and monitored by a responsible adult
- All materials are free and on loan for use. Parents are expected to clean up and return materials when finished.
- Respect confidentiality of the school and families. Do not discuss concerns about other children, families or staff in the presence of other parents.
- The parent resource center may only be utilized by parents and adult family members of the current Woodlin students.
- Review and comply with MCPS policies for the use of telephones and computers. Violations of these policies will result in the removal of parent resource center privileges.
PARENT MONITOR EXPECTATIONS
Opening Procedures
- The parent who will supervise the center must come into the main office and sign in and pick up keys to the portable.
- Only one set of keys will be issued. It is the responsibility of the parent on duty to keep track of the keys and return them to the main office at the end of the day. The set will contain an exterior door key card and portable key.
- The Key card- Required for entry into the main building
- Portable key-Required for entry into the portable
- The portable must be locked when not in use or occupied.
- Visitors to the parent resource center should refrain from roaming the building
- Visitors are not allowed to employ the copier for personal use
- Any safety, security, or personal injury incidents must be reported to the main office immediately
Parents Visiting
- Review Woodlin’s policies and procedures for visitors
- Make sure all visitor’s have signed in at the main office and have a visitor’s pass
Computer Use Procedures for Parent Monitors
- One guest login name will be provided for the Parent Room.
- Monitor parents should keep a log with the computer user, the date, and time logged in and out of the computer.
- Parents should sign an acceptable use policy before the first time they use the computers.
- Make sure the computer is shut down completely and the door is locked when no one is occupying the room.
