Why does the PTA have to raise so much money? What programs are being funded by the PTA? How does my child benefit from these funds?

Here's a list of the PTA programs we fund. Every student benefits from these important programs. Our budget will soon be available on this site under 'money matters' so you can see the value of each dollar rasied.

Why are we hit up with a Sally Foster catalog during the first weeks of school?

There are 2 main reasons for this.  First, we need to raise money at the beginning of the year to fund our fall programs.  This allows us to gauge how we are doing on our budget since we'll know the Sally Foster amount by the end of September.  The second reason is that we are competing with many other schools in the area, doing our sale early allows for us to be competitive.

Can't I just give a check at the beginning of the year instead of selling Sally Foster?

Yes!!  You can give a check when you return your Sally Foster catalog and note that it's a donation.  This is tax deductible.  And instead of 50% of your money coming back to the school, 100% of your money goes back to the school.  This also saves countless volunteer hours. Also, you can give a donation at any time of the year.

Are there any other ways to easily raise money for Woodlin that don't require money out of my pocket?

Yes!  One way is to sell Sally Foster to your friends, neighbors and co-workers and not yourself.  Other ways include: returning your Snider's receipts to the school (get your neighbors involved too) - we get 1% back from Sniders and this really adds up.  Register your Giant and Safeway cards and chose Woodlin as the school, we get money back from your grocery purchases.  Look for how to sign up for these programs at the first PTA meeting.  If you shop at Target and have a Target credit card, designate Woodlin as the school of your choice and Woodlin gets a portion of the sales.  Clip out the BoxTops from cereal, Kleenex and other products.   Finally, when you shop on-line, check out SchoolPop or BoxTops4Education.  Many popular on-line retailers will give money back to our school.

Are there other major fundraisers during the year beside Sally Foster?

Our other major fundraiser is the silent auction.  This is run in conjunction with the Winter Festival in February.  This allows you to bid on items such as restaurants, beach houses, tickets to a play or sporting events.  Since all these items are donated, 100% of the money goes back to Woodlin.

Is it possible to do different fundraisers this year?

Yes, although it usually takes well over a year to plan on changing our mix of fundraisers.  Planning for our major fundraisers happens well in advance of the actual dates of the fundraiser.  Please share your thoughts at any time and they will be reviewed by the PTA Board.
