Please see this May 12, 2020, message from PTA President Emily Menashes:
Hi Woodlin Families,
I can’t believe how long it has been since we were all back at Woodlin. I hope everyone is doing as well as can be expected, and if you’re like me, some days things work and some days they just don’t! From a PTA perspective, it’s been a challenge to figure out how to best support the Woodlin community when so many of our spring activities were focused on bringing people together. However, we’ve still been able to make sure our teachers know how much we appreciate them, support the spring Scholastic Book Fair (remember to place your orders by Friday, May 15), and we are planning to kick-off the online version of our spring auction on May 20. Stay tuned for more information on that! We’re also thinking ahead to next year about how we can best prepare to support Woodlin kids and teachers in this uncertain COVID-19 environment.
One of the things we do need to do to be ready for next year is to identify a new PTA Board. Myself (as outgoing PTA President), Brandi Davis (PTA Communications and Membership Chair), and Glenn Santos (parent extraordinaire) have been appointed as the “nominating committee” responsible for identifying a person for each elected position, to be voted on by the membership when we are next able to hold a meeting.
I have found serving on the PTA Board to be very rewarding, and I think other PTA Board members would say the same. As an organization, we cannot survive without active volunteers, and while some of our existing board members are willing to stay on for another year or so, it’s also important that new people with new ideas and new energy join the Board each year. We warmly welcome and strongly encourage anyone to consider joining the Woodlin PTA Board, including people of color and men. We have a diverse community and would love to have a PTA Board that represents that diversity.
If you are interested in serving in a board position next year, or if you know of someone else you think would be AMAZING, please email me (email@example.com), Brandi (firstname.lastname@example.org), and/or Glenn (email@example.com) by May 29.
You can learn a bit more about what we do on the PTA Website, or feel free to reach out to me with any questions about different positions. You can also reach out to current members of the board as well (http://woodlinpta.org/leadership/) if you want to get their insights.
