The PTA runs a number of activities that provide enrichment for Woodlin students. Our biggest program is the after-school clubs program, but enrichment has traditionally also included STEM night, in-school arts programs, Geography Bee, and Junior Achievement in a Day. Listed below are some opportunities we have for volunteers to work on enrichment activities at Woodlin. If you are interested in any of these positions or even just want to learn more about what’s involved, please contact us.
Enrichment Committee Chair (PTA Board Member). This is a position on the PTA Board and coordinates between the leads of the individual enrichment activities/events and the PTA Board. This person works to identify people to run the various events, manages the enrichment budget, and provides support to those lead coordinators as they plan the events. The Board meets once a month to talk about upcoming events and discuss the business of the PTA.
In-School Arts Coordinator. In the past, the PTA has sponsored in-school programming in the dramatic arts. Most recently, Shakespeare Theater and Imagination Stage were brought in to do a series of lessons for each grade level. While we were not able to run these programs last year, the PTA would like to sponsor a similar program again, ideally sometime this winter/early spring. This person would need to reach out to some local providers to research what they may able to do, and then work with Woodlin to schedule the programs.
STEM Night Coordinator(s). In recent years, this has been one of the best attended evening events that the PTA runs, but unfortunately our coordinators moved away (but are still available to share their knowledge!). The event, generally an evening in the spring, involves setting up a series of STEM-based activity stations for kids, inviting in some outside vendors in STEM, and then coordinating the volunteers to run the activity stations. This event probably deserves two co-chairs, so grab a friend who also loves science to run this event with you.
Assemblies Coordinator. The PTA has budgeted funds for school-wide assemblies that celebrate our community’s cultural diversity and meet other enrichment goals. This person would work with us to plan assemblies/presentations for the entire school. You would work with the PTA and Woodlin to identify the topics for the year, research vendors to provide the assemblies, and coordinate with the school to schedule these events.
Clubs coordinator-in-training. This is the current PTA’s after-school clubs coordinator’s last year. To make transition to next year easier, we would like to find the person now who is willing to take on clubs next year. This person will be able to work with the current coordinator this winter and spring to learn how the clubs program works. The PTA contracts with an outside company, Little Scholars, to identify the individual club providers and take care of all of the logistics for running the clubs. The Club coordinator is the primary liaison with Little Scholars and also makes sure we coordinate club dismissal and communication procedures and the activity buses with Woodlin.
If any of these appeal to you, please, please, please consider volunteering. The PTA is really proud of the enrichment we’ve been able to provide Woodlin’s kids and would like to see these programs continue.
