PTA Club Changes

Dear Woodlin Families,

This past fall, the PTA has partnered with S.M.I.L.E. to help manage our PTA After-School Clubs, which have grown in popularity through the years. We now have more than 300 club spots available to Woodlin students each session, and offer a variety of experiences throughout the year. This is a huge undertaking. In an effort to better coordinate day-to-day activity on the ground, we looked for a company that had experience in running a robust club program. S.M.I.L.E. has the resources to help us do that as well as experience with other elementary school PTA club programs in Montgomery County, including Pinecrest Elementary.

I am happy to announce that this session S.M.I.L.E. will also run the registration and billing for our AfterSchool Club program. Through this partnership, we are now able to offer for the first time—in addition to paper registration—an online registration option which should help streamline the payment process. As a result of these changes, the registration process is now first come, first served. However, in an effort for fairness, the PTA and S.M.I.L.E. may maintain priority lists in future sessions for students who did not get into their first club choice previously.

Woodlin PTA will work closely with S.M.I.L.E. on programming in order to make sure the children have a wide range of choices. We will continue to fund the after school buses and offer scholarships to Woodlin students in need. Our goal is to make sure our After-School Clubs program continues to thrive!

We ask for your patience as we institute this new system at Woodlin. After-School Clubs is the largest Enrichment program held throughout the school year and brings tremendous value to our learning community. We think this new partnership has the potential to help us manage what has become a very time-consuming and complicated process and hope you will work with us to ensure its success.

If you have any questions about this new process you may contact Darren Lawrence, founder of S.M.I.L.E., at If you would like to speak with a PTA representative you can contact PTA Enrichment Chair, Daria Hall, at
